“What is Washington’s View on Ukraine Approaching a Year of Elections?”

Ukraine is approaching an election year in 2019, with presidential elections set to be held on 31 March followed by parliamentary elections later in the year.

Chamber Members had an opportunity to hear from former US Ambassador to Ukraine, John Herbst, Director, Eurasia Center, Atlantic Council and Melinda Haring, Editor, UkraineAlert, Atlantic Council as to what Washington’s view is on Ukraine approaching a year of elections.

Ambassador John Herbst served for thirty-one years as a foreign service officer in the U.S. Department of State, retiring with the rank of career minister. He served as US Ambassador to Ukraine from 2003 to 2006.

Melinda Haring is the editor of the UkraineAlert blog, which is the Atlantic Council’s most popular publication. Its articles are regularly republished by Novoe Vremya, Newsweek, Kyiv Post, Liga.NET, Huffington Post, and Real Clear Defense. UkraineAlert articles received more than 2.7 million views in 2017.

The event gathered 100 guests. Members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine received insights and analysis on how the election results may affect the political and business landscape.

“The more that Ukraine can show tangible progress on reform — the more assistance that Ukraine can count on from the United States”, was the key message voiced by Melinda Haring.
